The Beginning
I wanted to share my journey to Satsang House with you about how I went from being totally stressed, overwhelmed and stuck to feeling empowered, free and excited about my life. Running from one thing to the next while the e-mails pile up and more gets added to the "to-do" list.
As you may already know, I’m the Wellness Director and Founder of Satsang House in Del Mar. There I offer mindfulness and meditation courses, community meditation events, Silent Retreats, private one-on-one life coaching sessions, and much more.
But I wasn’t always a meditation teacher and life coach. My journey has taken me many places.
I spent several years in corporate America in middle management for one of the largest media companies in the world. I traveled four out of five days a week, coming home with only enough time to do my laundry and head back out again.
The never-ending stress was taking its toll on me, and I never quite felt settled or at ease. I was on the treadmill many of us believe we're supposed to be on to be "successful."
Becoming A Mom
In my mid-thirties, I traded my briefcase for a stroller and happily left it all behind to become a full-time mom.
I hit a wall when my children were young, finding myself completely and totally overwhelmed. The stress of raising kids, one who is chronically ill, was a lot. I had a nagging feeling underneath it all that there simply had to be more to life.
I was certainly conflicted with the way I was living mine. Of course, I wanted to be there for my kids, but somewhere in the mix, I felt like a piece of me had vanished.
This internal conflict left me feeling anxious, frightened, and on edge. Much of the time, I felt quick-tempered, impatient, and totally unsettled. I truly felt as though I was living by my "to do list" and just surviving each day. Every minute of every day, I was asking myself "What's next?"
The struggle was tangible. I knew something had to give. My journey would begin to take a turn!
I wasn't really sure how the ancient practice of meditation was going to help me gain clarity about my inner turmoil or jump-start the next chapter of my life. I just had to put my skepticism aside and trust the process. Heck, what did I have to lose?
Not far into my new meditation practice, I felt a vague sense of clarity and peace begin to creep in. Instead of feeling as though I was surviving each day, I began to feel as though there was a little more direction, a few ideas on how to shift myself ... hope.
Stillness
In this newfound stillness, I was able to feel and listen to the power of my intuition and act from there as opposed to REACTING to everything as it came up. I had a new built-in pause button which was naturally becoming a new way of life I'd never experienced before.
The shift in me was subtle, yet quite profound. I began peeling back the layers that had for years stifled my personal growth. I could then confront them head-on with an intuitive sense that there would be (and was) freedom on the other side.
It wasn’t always easy or comfortable. Having been so accustomed to running around like a crazy person from one thing to the next, sitting in stillness sometimes felt awkward and unnatural. Though I learned that this is part of the process of retraining our scattered and chatter-filled minds to discover inner stillness, creativity, peace, and joy.
I am passionate about sharing what I’ve learned throughout my personal journey as well as all I’ve learned over the years I studied to become a certified teacher. I want to start by giving you three simple secrets to begin to create mindfulness in your daily life.
If you practice these three little secrets, you will be on a path to freedom where you can find your true purpose and reignite your life!
